Pumpkin Spice Is Not So Nice

Some might say I have a love / hate relationship with the flavors of fall. On the one hand, you can't go wrong with anything that has caramel in it. Caramel apples, caramel pie, caramel in my coffee? Yes please. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of anything that's pumpkin flavored. It's not that pumpkins are bad. It's just not my preferred flavor. And I have not yet found anyone who had a good idea for how to incorporate pumpkin into a recipe.
First of all, I don't think of a pumpkin as a fruit any more than I think of a cucumber or tomato as a fruit. Ok, technically they are all fruits. But who wants a cucumber pie? Anyone? I think of it as a vegetable, similar to a squash. Oh wait, that's a fruit, too? Well there goes that argument.

Anyway, pumpkins are not supposed to go in desserts. That's just wrong and you should know better. Please don't save any pumpkin pie for me. It will just go to waste, literally. Alright, if you insist on serving up a pumpkin roll, I'll have some. But only because I'm after the cream cheese filling. Trust me, it's not about the pumpkin.

Pumpkin doesn't belong in coffee either. That's right I'm talking to you, Starbucks junkie. No, I am not a hard core coffee drinker. Yes, I do love froufrou coffees. I especially love the frothy ones. For me, it's best with a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of whipped cream, creamer, toffee flavor, etc. I have even been known to have a bulletproof coffee occasionally. For those of you who don't know about Bulletproof Coffee, it's a special recipe for coffee that includes coffee, butter, MCT oil, and the use of a blender. It's also a brand.

So what am I having in my cup this fall? Here's one of my favorites. I love Hills Bros English Toffee flavored Instant Cappuccino. I put mine in my single serving type blender from Oster to add a little extra frothy goodness to it. When I'm watching the carb count or calories, I use the Sugar Free French Vanilla flavor. Then I just add a little Sugar Free English Toffee flavored Torani Syrup. It's so yummy!

The amount of caffeine in this faux cappuccino is negligible. So if you're drinking coffee strictly for the caffeine, this might not be your thing. But this is my morning snuggles. I hug the cup as I slowly wake up. No, I don't bounce out of bed and hit the ground running. I've been there, done that. Now I've learned how to do mornings right and savor my cup of goodness.

If you're really into the whole pumpkin spice thing, please get some help and have your taste buds checked. There may be a wire loose somewhere. You may also want to check out Flavor God's Pumpkin Pie Seasoning. Flavor God doesn't put any filler or chemicals into their seasonings. I haven't tried the Pumpkin Pie flavor. Why would I do that? But I do have other flavors and they are top notch.

Do you have a favorite seasonal drink? Are you a coffee connoisseur? What are your thoughts on pumpkin spice? I would love to hear from you. Please leave a comment below.
